A quick and crispy pizza made with a tortilla wrap as the base and customizable pantry toppings—perfect for a speedy, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • Large flour tortillas: (2, 8—10 inch) A thin, crisp base for pizza.
  • Tomato passata or canned tomato sauce: 1/2 cup (120 ml), provides classic pizza flavor.
  • Olive oil: 1 tablespoon, helps enrich sauce and crisp the edges.
  • Dried oregano: 1/2 teaspoon, for a savory herbal note.
  • Garlic powder: 1/4 teaspoon, adds aromatic depth.
  • Salt and pepper: to taste, enhances all the flavors.
  • Mozzarella cheese: 3/4 cup (75 g) shredded, melts beautifully for that perfect cheese pull.

Tortilla pizza is now my family's go-to for fun Friday nights. Each person builds their own, and we eat them hot straight from the oven while watching movies together.

Variation Ideas

For a non-vegetarian version, add drained canned tuna, cooked sausage, or pepperoni slices before baking. Swap tomato sauce for pesto base to change up flavors instantly.

Serving Suggestions

Pair pizza slices with a fresh green salad or serve with chili flakes for a spicy kick. A light Italian red wine complements the meal beautifully.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use different tortillas for the base?

Yes, both flour and corn tortillas work well, though flour tortillas tend to crisp better when baked or cooked in a skillet.

How can I make the base more crispy?

Brushing the tortilla lightly with olive oil before adding toppings enhances crispiness during cooking.

What pantry toppings are suitable for this dish?

Olives, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes, canned corn, and mushrooms are all great options.

Is it possible to prepare this without an oven?

Yes, cooking in a covered skillet over medium-high heat on each side melts the cheese and crisps the base effectively.

How can this be adjusted for non-vegetarian preferences?

Adding drained canned tuna, cooked sausage, or pepperoni provides savory protein options.

Can I substitute the tomato sauce with something else?

Using pesto instead of tomato sauce offers an alternative flavor profile that's fresh and vibrant.
